what is meant by ESP de-rating?

is it intentional ( i expected that there will be depletion in some well so i use large pump to produce the well {current condition }then de-rating the pump to match the depleted well in the future)?

or

it is a problem, that occur for the pump with time which lead to rate less than the pump normal rate?

thanks in advance

Hi! in my experience, de-rating of ESP applies to ESP motors. It's basically a correction to the motor operational parameters due to the inherent construction electrical ineffiency of the motor. So for example a 250HP/2200V/65A rated motor would be treated as a 208HP/2090V/61A motor for sizing of the ESP system and operation. The de-rating is based on field experience and historical performance.

Hope it helps!

I think de-rating ESP is to use less pump size after producing with actual production and found the feed from the reservoir is less than expected in terms of oil rate as well as fluid level
in this case re-design for the ESP should be done and use lower pump rating
