Petrel 2011 Reservoir Engineering:

A Step-by-Step guide to defining a simulation case using field data

Download the Petrel Model in Attachment as well as the guided file.

This material is written assuming the user to have a basic understanding of petroleum reservoir engineering, and also previous knowledge or use with Petrel and familiarity with the user interface etc.

In order to really maximize your competence with both Petrel and ECLIPSE taking a short course in either Petrel RE or ECLIPSE black oil is highly advised, nevertheless this guide would make an excellent introduction and background revision for any such courses

By following this tutorial you will be able to :

- Build a full dynamic Petrel model by input all the required reservoir engineering data
- Run any simulation case
- History matching
- Make any type of development plans.

.

Within this guide we are going to learn how to prepare a reservoir simulation case inside Petrel 2011. We will review the steps that are required to start a simulation in ECLIPSE, how to visualize the results and how to do the best analysis of your simulation.

For this exercise we are going to load the project Gulfaks.pet.

I can't seem to load the .pet file. Is this model readable using PETREL 2008?

Apparently, this Gulfaks model was generated using PETREL 2011.

I have all the data for a field except for seismic.
1. Can I build a model without it?
2. What can I do with this data to get the most out of it?
3. Can I do some kind of predictions for it so if it's feasible I can buy the seismic data for further study?

Waiting for you response.

In order to run any simulation case you need a static model (full geological description) as well as engineering data.
For static model you need structure contour map..

Thanks a lot for your great forum.

In this tutorial at step 6 (Define the simulation case) when I Import the "Demo" model in the grid drop down, it hints () and show this warning: The selected grid “Demo” contains truncated faults which cannot be represented correctly in this format. A best approximation will be used.
and after I push the button Export it shows this warning and do not export any thing.
I'm using the Petrel 2011.2 32bit.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I successfully completed the tutorial. Keep the good job FANARCO. :D
Let us know if you have anything like it for other software suits.
Thanks a lot.
