Knowledge about Some Power Transmission Parts

There are various ,power transmission parts such as pulleys, shaft couplings, speed reducers, transmission belts, transmission chains, universal joints, sprockets, worms and gearboxes. Now let us learn some of them.

The first one is the coupling. It refers to a device that is used to connect two shafts together at their ends for the purpose of transmitting power. There are two general types of couplings, i.e. rigid couplings and flexible couplings. The former is designed to draw two shafts together tightly so that no relative motion can occur between them. This design is quite suitable for some kinds of equipments. Moreover, rigid couplings should be applied only when the alignment of the two shafts can be maintained very accurately, not only at the time of installation but also during operation of the machines. And the latter one is designed to transmit torque smoothly while permitting some axial, radial, and angular misalignment.

Many kinds of flexible couplings are commercially available. For example, chain coupling is a very common type. As to the chain coupling, the torque is transmitted through a doubt roller chain. And the clearances between the chain and the sprocket teeth on the two coupling halves accommodate misalignment. Let us see another important type-gear coupling. As to it, the torque is transmitted between crown-hobbed teeth from the coupling half to the sleeve. The crown shape on the gear teeth permits misalignment.

The second important part that should be talked is universal joint. This kind of transmission parts is also quite important. Generally, they operate at rather low speed. Besides, they can also be used at high speed. The single universal joint is applied at slow speed and low power for that the output shaft has a nonuniform angular velocity when it is driven by a shaft rotating at a uniform angular velocity.

Addition to them, the speed reducer also plays a very important role in the industries. It is a component of many mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and biological motors. It can be see in almost all the transmission systems of all kinds of machinery. It can be used in the transportation vehicles such as ships, automobiles, and motorcycles, etc. Besides, it can also be applied in the heavy construction equipments, and machinery used in industrial processing machinery and automated production equipments.
